Release v1.1.0

2/3/2010 7:38:37 PM -04:00

Perenthia release version 1.1.0 is live and includes the following:

  • Network changes (You will need port 4530 open to connect to the game server)
  • User Interface updates, the chat, map and player panels will remember where they are dragged between sessions so you can layout your game client the way you want it.
  • Server code changes that include some required backend changes for the networking and for some new features to be added soon.

Next Release

The next Perenthia release will include some changes for turn based combat, rather than being able to spam the server with attacks. This will lead the way for co-operative play and player versus player combat.

Still to Come

After the combat system is re-worked then Households will be implemented which will lead the way to Household versus Household combat/wars and Household towns.

Perenthia Map

11/15/2009 7:59:00 PM -04:00

I have been working on finishing up the Perenthia maps, re-working some game internals to help the overall game perform faster and doing some re-tooling based on player feedback. I thought I would go ahead and post the map of Perenthia so far, this map is generated from actual game tiles and as I finish more cities I will add them as well.

Networking Improvements

8/26/2009 5:20:17 PM -04:00

Some much needed improvements to the way Perenthia sends data to and from the server to the client are currently underway. Along with these improvements are some additional features which will be blogged on more as the release gets a little closer. So far, the networking improvements have sped up Perenthia about 25%, which is not all that much but there are still a few more changes planned that should increase this number.

Release Notes 1.0.12

Perenthia Release 1.0.12 is now live and is a small release to fix some issues with the random areas. The errors with the monsters in Fray Woods should be cleared up; you should be able to throw down and snag your loot now.

Alpha Release 1.0.11

Release Notes 1.0.11

Perenthia Release 1.0.11 is now live and includes the following new features: (Remember to clear your browser cache before playing!)

Public Web Site

The public web site http://www.perenthia.com is now the host for the game client, you will see PLAY links when you login. The http://alpha.perenthia.com is going to be removed in the near future so be sure to update any references to the Armorial. The new Armorial link is http://www.perenthia.com/Armorial/Character/<character name>, example: http://www.perenthia.com/Armorial/Character/Aldarian.

A large portion of time over the last few weeks went into organizing and setting up the public web site. Because the client has been moved you will be prompted again to save information to you hard drive.

Armorial

The Perenthia Armorial is now live on the public site, you can search for Characters and view some information about them. In the future you will be able to search Households, Items and Creatures. Visit http://www.perenthia.com/Armorial to begin. There are also instructions on the Armorial for how to reference signature panels with details about your character.

Context Menus

Items will now display context menus when you click on a small green arrow in the icon slot. These menus will list actions that can be performed based on the context of the item. For instance, equipment will have equip/unequip options, actions will have use and clear options so you can clear out action shortcuts and reset them. Usable items such as potions and food with just have a use option and just about everything has a drop option.

Equipment

The equipping features in-game have been changed slightly to improve the drag and drop equipment feature and allow for equip and unequip commands.

Keyboard Shortcuts

The "X" key will now function as a Southwest movement direction shortcut. Currently the "C" key occupies this action, and still does for now so you can re-train the muscle memory.

Vendor Purchasing

The max items that can be purchased from vendors has been raised to 20.

Avatar Panels

The panels at the top of the screen when playing the game have been modified slightly in preparation for Households, you will notice some circles around the avatar image, these will host the Household image and an the image associated with the title the member has achieved within the Household. Also, characters played by Lionsguard Admins (me) will display an image of a lion head (like on the public web site) in a circle next to the name of the player. Only admins will have this lion image.

Households

The framework for player run groups called Households is starting to come together and the Households feature should be available with the next release, unless some high priority bug fixes need to be implemented as a result of this update. :) You can read about Households at http://www.perenthia.com/Lore/Households.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following bugs/issues were also corrected:

  • Drag and drop of items for equipment or spells to actions has been corrected
  • The list of NPCs should no longer disappear if you attempt to move in an invalid direction
  • Action slots can now be reset via the context menus
  • Items can be dropped from inventory using the Drop option from the context menu

Some outstanding issues still waiting to be fixed:

  • Priest healing and refresh quantity does not work
  • Inventory does no maintain item positions and re-orders when buying and selling at merchants
  • Not all skills are valid for play
  • Mobiles need some form of AI, to wonder around, re-act to changes, allow interaction, etc.
  • Need ability to train skills and repair items (coming very soon)

Perenthia Screen Changes

6/6/2009 11:44:46 PM -04:00

Here are some screenshots of some of the upcoming UI enhancements for release 1.0.11. The actions and chat panels have been split into two separate windows and the room panel has been moved to a tab under the map.

You may also notice some of the tiles have some small icons on them. I am hoping this will make the tiles stand out a little more as to what kind of terrain your character is walking around on.

This first screenshots show the actions and chat panels and you can see the room description on the “Description” tab of the panel under the map.

This one displays some of the icons on the tiles, so you can see my character walking around in what hopefully look like trees. :)

This last screenshot displays the new look of the item slots and the menu you will see when clicking on the green arrow in the item slot.

Development Update

6/1/2009 10:03:22 PM -04:00

Wanted to give an update and talk about some of the new features currently under development and slated for the next release.

For starters, the drag and drop system is being improved along with the addition of context menus on items. The image below illustrates the context menu (the little green arrow). This menu will give you options depending on the type of item you have selected. This, along with the drag and drop improvements should resolve several of the equipment related issues that have been cropping up.

Player run Households (Clans, Guilds, etc.) system is being actively developed, more on that feature when it gets closer to being finished.

The official Perenthia web site will be the host for the Silverlight client moving forward, which means once the next update is released you will need to re-allow the Perenthia client to store files on your hard drive.

You will also be able to login with several different service providers and associate the service provider accounts with your Lionsguard ID, making it easier to use a familiar login such as Facebook, Live or Google.

The Twitter updates will start to change over the next few updates, the kill updates will be replaced with level increases, Household formations and other in-game event information.

The next release 1.0.11 should be live within the next few weeks. The updates are starting to take a bit longer as there are a lot of tests that need to be executed to ensure the new features don’t break existing features.

Release 1.0.10

5/19/2009 10:45:00 PM -04:00

Perenthia Release 1.0.10 is now live and includes the following bug fixes:

  • Equipping items is failing when an item is already equipped. The underlying problem has been corrected, if anyone still experiences this issue  will need to perform a data fix on your character.
  • The dropped items issue when clicking on the "X" should be corrected now.
  • Buff spells should not buff mobiles so if you have a mobile targeted the spell will be cast on you.
  • Cleared up a drag and drop issue with equipping items, when you equip and item the new icon should replace the old one in the equipped spot and likewise your old item should show up in your inventory.
  • You should now loose more experience upon death after level 5.

The next release will include more bug fixes and some new features.

Some outstanding issues still waiting to be fixed:

  • Priest healing and refresh quantity does not work
  • Moving in an invalid direction causes the room panel to clear (causing un-looted mobs to disappear)
  • Inventory does not maintain item positions and re-orders when buying and selling at merchants
  • Not all skills are valid for play
  • Mobiles need some form of AI, to wonder around, re-act to changes, allow interaction, etc.
  • Need ability to train skills and repair items
